A humpback whale glides past a diver inside a cave carved from epoxy resin and natural wood. Light enters from the top of the piece, so the beam falls across the whale and the figure below, and in a dark room the hollow turns deep and mysterious while the wood rim keeps the lamp grounded on a desk or shelf. Two lengths are available. The large measures about 14 by 8 inches and the small about 8 by 5 inches, with roughly half an inch of variation on either. A style option changes the figure in the water: a scuba diver in full gear, or a free diver descending without a tank. Materials are epoxy resin, wood and small posed figures, and the wood keeps a faint natural scent. Lighting is a single colour white LED of 1 to 2 watts, switched with a button on the base and powered over a USB cable, so there is no remote and no battery to find. The glow is decorative rather than room lighting. Every piece is poured and sanded by hand, so grain, outline and size shift a little between lamps, and the occasional crack in the wood can be eased with wood wax oil.
