A mother humpback and her calf rise through tinted epoxy here with a diver suspended between them, jellyfish drifting at the edges of the pour and rank after rank of carved ripples breaking the surface above. What the resin holds is a miniature ocean rather than a single figure, and when the lamp is lit from beneath, light bends through those ripples and moves across the wood the way it moves over a sea floor. Depth does the heavy lifting: the whales sit well back from the diver, which is what makes the scale read correctly. Three sizes are listed: Size S at 14 by 12 cm, Size M at 22 by 15.5 cm, and Size L at 24.5 by 17 cm. The build is epoxy resin on wood, and it sits as comfortably on an office desk as on a shelf at home or beside a bed. Since every casting is poured and carved by hand, the arrangement of the ripples, the position of the jellyfish and the finished measurements differ between lamps, and small shifts in tint are simply how resin behaves in the mould.
